Easily overcome blurry and cloudy vision with cataract surgery

A great solution if your vision problems are affecting your life

The diagnosis is made on the basis of a thorough eye examination.
The following investigations are carried out :

  • Biomicroscopic research
  • Measurement of eye length
  • Determination of the curvature of the eye
  • Visual field examination
  • Testing contrast sensitivity
  • Additional investigations if necessary.

On the basis of this data, the strength of the artificial lens can be determined, and possible other causes for the poor vision can be traced.

  • Cataract surgery is the only option to treat cataracts , also known as cataracts. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is replaced by a clear artificial lens. Lens implantation is always done on only one eye at a time. If you do not have cataracts operated on, it can lead to blindness.
  • Our ophthalmologists at the Goes Eye Centre have been specialised for years in the treatment of cataracts . In our eye centre we closely monitor the very latest surgical techniques and immediately apply them in practice. Even though these techniques sometimes evolve very quickly, we are always up-to-date. This way we can always perform the most professional treatments
  • For safe cataract operations you are certainly at the right place at the Goes Eye Centre. We link our technical knowledge and experience to a warm and human contact with patients. After all, that is the basis for a good surgical result and a satisfied patient.
  • Cataract surgery is one of the safest procedures that can be performed on the human body
  • More than 1.3 million cataract surgeries are performed annually in the United States alone, and more than 80,000 annually in Belgium . In total, more than 20 million people have already been operated on for cataracts
  • Currently , cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures in the world
  • While it is a fairly technical procedure for the operating team, the patient experiences no or only minor discomfort , the procedure is painless and usually takes no longer than fifteen minutes.

However, as with any surgical procedure, complications can arise . These complications, such as:

  • an internal eye infection
  • an internal eye infection
  • retinal swelling
  • retinal detachment.

These can occur during or after the procedure, despite the best care given to your procedure.

In the event of the slightest concern, you should therefore inform us as soon as possible. Reasons for concern are:

  • a sudden loss of vision
  • increasing pain
  • increasing redness.

The alternative to having cataract surgery is not undergoing cataract surgery. You cannot treat cataracts with anything other than a surgical procedure. If you do not have your cataracts removed, they will continue to cause your visual acuity and contrast sensitivity to decline gradually.

  • Make sure you don't wear makeup, nail polish or face cream
  • We will apply eye drops just before the operation . This ensures that your pupil is properly dilated (enlarging the pupil). This may feel burning or warm for a while. To make sure that the pupils dilate properly, it may take a while before it is your turn
  • During the operation, you will lie flat in a comfortable chair. The microscope will be held above the eye
  • The local anesthetic is simply with a few eye drops , the big advantage of this is that no needle is used and the eye will see well faster
  • During the operation you should always look at the light and lie still. At first, the light will seem a bit distracting as your pupils are wide open and the light hits the eye brightly. After a few minutes you will be completely used to this
  • The nurse will disinfect your eyelids . If you feel this stinging, be sure to inform us. This is completely remedied with a few drops in the eye
  • It is important to remain still . If this is not possible, for example due to a cough or itching, please let us know. Do not touch your face, for this will break the sterility
  • The cataract surgery is completely painless . Of course, this does not exclude the possibility that you can feel something or sometimes see something vague (colours, light, movements…). If you do feel something painful, please let us know. An additional anaesthetic is always possible. Before you know it, the cataract surgery has started and ended
  • At the end of the operation, some extra antibiotics will be applied to protect against infections . Afterwards, the nurse will explain to you in detail what you can and must do next. You will be given an eyecup to wear for the first 2-3 nights. However, this is not necessary during the day. You will also receive a video recording with everything magnified 15 times
  • Because of the anaesthetic you will probably have a blurred vision for a while. This makes it important that someone picks you up at the centre after the procedure. The blurred vision will last a maximum of 10 hours . However, you may use all of your eye. Also double vision after the procedure, watery eyes just after the procedure, etc. is usually completely normal. Your eye will be checked the day after the procedure, so don't worry if your vision doesn't improve immediately. The day after the operation you can drive the car again.
  • Cataract surgery is unjustly terrifying. It is a safe, painless and precise procedure that will make your life a lot more pleasant.

The results of cataract surgery are nothing short of astounding. Cataract surgery has the very best results of any surgical technique worldwide. There is no other surgical technique that causes so little inconvenience to the patient while the results are visible from the very next day. And this with only drops as anesthesia, and in day hospitalization.
