Ben ik geschikt voor ooglaseren?

Of u geschikt bent voor ooglaseren hangt af van meerdere medische en persoonlijke factoren. Daarom is een uitgebreid vooronderzoek essentieel en onmisbaar.

Tijdens dit onderzoek evalueren we onder andere:

  • uw huidige bril- of contactlenssterkte en of deze stabiel is
  • de dikte, vorm en regelmaat van het hoornvlies
  • de gezondheid van het hoornvlies en het netvlies
  • de aanwezigheid van droge ogen of andere oogaandoeningen
  • uw leeftijd en algemene gezondheid

Niet iedereen met een bril of lenzen komt automatisch in aanmerking voor ooglaseren. In sommige gevallen is ooglaseren niet veilig of niet de beste oplossing, bijvoorbeeld bij een te dun hoornvlies of bij bepaalde aandoeningen. In dat geval bespreken we alternatieven die beter bij uw ogen passen.

Ooglaseren is vandaag een zeer veilige en goed onderzochte medische behandeling wanneer ze correct wordt uitgevoerd. Wereldwijd zijn al tientallen miljoenen ogen succesvol gelaserd.

De veiligheid hangt sterk af van:

  • een nauwkeurige selectie van patiënten
  • het gebruik van moderne, gekalibreerde apparatuur
  • ervaring van de behandelende arts
  • goede opvolging na de ingreep

Zoals bij elke medische ingreep bestaan er risico’s, maar ernstige complicaties komen zelden voor. Door veiligheid altijd voorop te stellen en geen behandelingen uit te voeren bij twijfel, wordt het risico tot een minimum beperkt.

De behandeling zelf is niet pijnlijk. Voor de ingreep worden verdovende oogdruppels toegediend, waardoor u geen pijn voelt.

Wat u mogelijk wel ervaart:

  • lichte druk tijdens de behandeling
  • een branderig of schurend gevoel na afloop
  • tijdelijk tranende of lichtgevoelige ogen

Het ongemak na de ingreep hangt af van de gebruikte techniek. Bij LASIK of SMILE is dit meestal beperkt tot enkele uren. Bij PRK kan het herstel wat meer ongemak geven gedurende enkele dagen. Met aangepaste medicatie en duidelijke instructies blijft dit goed beheersbaar.

Er bestaat geen universeel beste ooglaserbehandeling. De juiste techniek is altijd individueel bepaald.

Veelgebruikte technieken zijn:

  • LASIK: snel visueel herstel, weinig postoperatief ongemak
  • PRK: geschikt bij dunner hoornvlies, iets langere genezing
  • SMILE: minimale incisie, snelle stabilisatie bij bepaalde sterktes

De keuze hangt af van uw oogmetingen, levensstijl, beroep en verwachtingen. Tijdens het vooronderzoek wordt samen bekeken welke behandeling medisch het veiligst en functioneel het beste is.

De meeste bijwerkingen zijn tijdelijk en maken deel uit van het genezingsproces.

Mogelijke klachten zijn:

  • droge ogen
  • wisselend zicht in de eerste weken
  • halo’s of lichtkransen rond lichten, vooral ’s nachts

In zeldzame gevallen kan een bijkomende behandeling nodig zijn. Door regelmatige opvolgconsultaties kunnen afwijkingen vroegtijdig opgespoord en behandeld worden.

De hersteltijd verschilt per techniek:

  • LASIK / SMILE: vaak binnen 24–48 uur functioneel zicht
  • PRK: herstel over meerdere dagen tot weken

In het algemeen geldt:

  • werken kan vaak na enkele dagen
  • autorijden zodra het zicht veilig is
  • sporten meestal na 1 à 2 weken
  • zwemmen en make-up tijdelijk vermijden

U krijgt steeds persoonlijke richtlijnen op maat van uw behandeling.

De laserbehandeling corrigeert uw huidige sterkte blijvend. Wel blijft het oog onderhevig aan natuurlijke veroudering.

Belangrijk om te weten:

  • ooglaseren voorkomt geen ouderdomsverziendheid
  • een leesbril kan later alsnog nodig zijn
  • kleine veranderingen in sterkte zijn mogelijk op lange termijn

Tijdens het vooronderzoek bespreken we realistische verwachtingen op korte én lange termijn.

De prijs van ooglaseren hangt af van:

  • de gekozen techniek
  • één of beide ogen
  • inbegrepen nazorg en opvolging

In België wordt ooglaseren meestal niet terugbetaald door de mutualiteit, behalve in uitzonderlijke medische situaties. Tijdens het consult krijgt u een duidelijk en transparant kostenoverzicht.

Veel patiënten hebben na ooglaseren geen bril meer nodig voor veraf. Afhankelijk van leeftijd en situatie kan:
